Kagem Mining Ltd, based in Lufwanyama, is the world's single largest emerald producer. It covers an area of approximately 41 square kilometers and is in the central part of the Ndola Rural Emerald Restricted Area ("NRERA'), in the Copperbelt Province of Zambia.
Zambia's Kagem mine is located in the southern part of the Copperbelt Province, in the emerald mining area south of Kitwe. The first thing that catches your attention is its scale. Over a kilometer in length, it is enormous compared to most colored gemstone mining operations.
